Britain Next is published by Prem Dev, trading as Clove9, of Office 128, 18 Young Street, Edinburgh EH2 4JB. That address is also the address for service of any formal notice. You can reach us at hello@britainnext.co.uk.

Britain Next is not a registered company. It is run by one person as a sole trader, so the person named above is the publisher and the data controller, and is answerable for what appears here.

Britain Next is a record. We take information from official sources, the UK Parliament, GOV.UK, the Office for National Statistics and public bodies, and present it in plain English with a link back to the original. The original document is always the authority. Where we and the source disagree, the source is right and we are wrong, and we want to know.

Britain Next is not advice. Nothing here is legal, financial, medical, immigration or tax advice, and you should not treat it as a substitute for advice from someone qualified and regulated who knows your circumstances. Nothing here is a recommendation about how to vote, and we do not make one.

We try hard to be accurate and we correct mistakes in the open. We cannot promise the site is complete or free of error, and some of what we hold is gathered automatically. Where we are unsure, we say so rather than guessing.

Please do not:

• break the law, or use Britain Next to harass, defame or endanger anyone
• try to break into, overload or disrupt the service, or test its security without asking us first
• misrepresent what our records say, or present our material as if an official body had published it
• scrape the site in a way that degrades it for other people when the open API exists for that purpose

We can suspend access where one of these is happening. If your access is ever restricted by mistake, write to us and we will look at it.

Our API is free, needs no key, and is documented at the developer page. The Britain Next compilation, meaning our selection, structuring and wording, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. You may copy, adapt and republish it, including commercially.

The condition is attribution. Credit Britain Next and link to the page or record you took it from, so your own readers can trace it as you did. Do not imply we endorse you or your conclusions.

The underlying official data is not ours to license. It remains under the terms of whoever published it, principally the Open Government Licence and the Open Parliament Licence, and those terms come with it.

The licence is granted on the material as it stands. We give no warranty with it, and we may change, withdraw or restructure the API. If you build something that depends on it, tell us and we will give you as much notice as we can.

Most of Britain Next needs no account at all. Signing in to BNext only syncs your own choices across your devices. Keep your sign-in link to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

You can delete your synced data at any time from your BNext page, and that is the end of it. We may close an account that is being used to break these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law stops us.

We are responsible for loss we cause you by failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for business losses, or for decisions you take on the strength of something here without checking the source we link to.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, you keep all your legal rights, and nothing here takes them away.

If something is wrong, tell us which page and which sentence, and we will check it against the source. Our corrections policy and complaints policy say how we handle it. If you are named on the site, the privacy notice sets out your rights and your route to the Information Commissioner's Office, which you may use without coming to us first.

We will update these terms as the service develops, and we will change the date at the top when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the new version.

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the nation where you live, and you keep the protection of the consumer law that applies there.
